The Torment of Saint Anthony- naked truth
Posted in Metaphysics & religion on May 13, 2009 | Leave a Comment »
Just heard the news that an original painting by Michaelangelo, ‘The Torment Of Saint Anthony’ is going on show in New York.
A quickie: when I was growing in Ireland and the UK it was common to say a quick prayer to St Anthony if you had lost something.
It was just “Saint Anthony guide me”. It [...]
Science, religion, creationism and Darwin
Posted in Metaphysics & religion on May 9, 2009 | 1 Comment »
There has been a lot of debate, books and articles and programmes about the issue of: ‘Is there a God?’; ‘Is there life after death?’; ‘Is Darwin right?’; ‘Are spirituality and religion shams and delusions?’
The Apocalypse and the credit crunch

I’ve had a longish break from this blog that included Christmas, the New Year and my birthday. There is a condition known as blog burn out but I don’t think I was suffering from that. Maybe I had just run out of ideas for posts.
What’s happened since then? Well, the world has spiralled down [...]
Naked Pierce Brosnan – why the interest?

It’s funny. I put up a post about a time many years ago when I co-wrote a Celtic rock musical for the Edinburgh Festival that starred a naked (and young) Pierce Brosnan. Since then, the post has been by far the most popular on this blog – despite all the other stuff happening on the [...]
Whatever happened to all the wild young children?

I am watching a TV programme about ‘Wind In The Willows’, the all-time classic children’s tale of the river bank with some of the greatest quotes of all time. Kenneth Grahame based his mythical story on the Thames side village of Cookham, where he lived as a child.
The programme made the point that as a [...]

I have been invited to do a local radio interview and it’s one of those shows that have a pool of standard questions that you pick out of a hat. Questions like: What book has had a lasting impression on you? What period of history would you like to have lived through? What’s the favourite [...]
Young adult fantasy is going well

It seems that just by putting the word ‘naked’ into a title or tag has increased hits to this blog tremendously. I’m glad a few of you out there have managed to find ‘Tall Story’. I’m not sure yet how you go about linking to this blog (if you wanted to) or vice versa. I [...]

I am sitting on a story that could shake the world.
No, it’s true.
My US agent has been shopping ‘An Angel On My Shoulder’ to a receptive bunch of editors and they have universally praised it while rejecting it. It is a dramatised true story that reads like a spiritual thriller. Well, that’s exactly what it [...]
So, what is reality when it’s at home?
Posted in Metaphysics & religion, tagged India, Omniverse, reality, sages, Truth on August 13, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
I guess that the most fundamental question any one of us on this fragment of dust can ever ask ourselves, and one that can sound profound or pretentious is – what is reality? It’s an interesting question. It’s one that another blogger I’ve come across has had a stab at answering http://omniverse.blogspot.com/. But how many [...]

What this blog is about
Anything that sheds some light on the human condition through wacky, weird, wonderful human stories. It's a blog about books, movies, human communication, politics, metaphysics, love and religion. Why Tall Story? Well, I'm six feet five so that's one reason. Another is that a tall story can be euphemism for the 'life: illusion or reality' debate and we can see ourselves and our destiny (if there is one) more clearly through story and fable. Tall Story is open to articles, book reviews, comment (no spam please), controversial points-of-view and anything that might cause that 'shift in consciousness' feeling. I'll be the final arbiter, of course.‘Your earliest memory’ project: please take part
